International Expert Network
(IEN)
Establishment of the International Expert
Network (IEN) is a key activity of the CARBOPEAT Project in
order to associate as many experts in peatlands globally with
its aims, objectives and outputs. International experts will
be selected and invited to participate in the network on the
basis of their specific, expertise and contacts with research
institutes. The IEN will be expanded through contacts with
other organisations (e.g., NGOs, industry and business, etc.)
in order to provide a comprehensive inventory of as many individuals,
organisations, government agencies and other stakeholders
as possible with an interest in tropical, temperate and boreal
peatlands, their carbon dynamics and policy implications.
Existing networks may be screened for suitable participants.
This information will be used to establish effective communication
links both with members of the network and the Project Management
Team (by e-mail and the project web site) and to provide the
constituency from which members of the project working groups
will be drawn.
The responsibilities of the International
Expert Network include:
- Providing expert input to the action plans and deliverables
of the 5 Working Groups
- Contributing to and comment on the technical reports
and other materials prepared by the 5 Working Groups and
participate in their dissemination and publicity
- Participating in the three major CARBOPEAT events,
especially symposia, workshops and policy discussions
on tropical peatland in the EU and developing countries.
